Welcome to
CityScope is a database of conditions measured at a low level of geography in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. The foundation of this database is parcel level surveys of housing conditions in the urban core of Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas City, Kansas. The surveys were commissioned by the city of Kansas City, Missouri, and the Unified Government of Wyandotte County. The surveys were conducted between April, 2000 and December, 2002 by the UMKC Center for Economic Information and the Kansas City Neighborhood Alliance.
The housing conditions survey (HCS) reports exterior conditions of each residential property as of the survey date. Changes that have taken place since that date are not reflected in this data. HCS is a time-specific strategic planning tool and not intended as a basis for market valuation.
Some CityScope data is available via the CityScope Internet Map Server Prototype, Version 1.1. The HCS is available only through the Internet Map Server. Basic demographic Census data is also provided at the block level for KCMO and KCK. Detailed Census data is provided at the block group and census tract level for KCMO and at the census tract level for KCK.
Other CityScope indicators are not yet mappable, but can be extracted from the database. Offense and Arrest data from the police department of KCMO can be extracted at the neighborhood level for all of Kansas City, Missouri, and at the tract level for all of Kansas City, Kansas. Home Mortgage Disclosure Act data can also be extracted.
Planned improvements of CityScope include updates of the housing conditions survey, home ownership patterns and additional community development indicators.
